Greater Lyon urban community involvement

Greater Lyon urban community organised a LYON COMPETE conference on February 8th and 9th, 2007 about “Cluster Strategy and Policy in City Regional Competitiveness”.
Competitiveness clusters have become a key asset in Greater Lyon’s economic development policy. We have developed an ambitious policy based on 5 competitive clusters focused on fields such as healthcare and infectious diseases, sustainable chemistry, urban mobility, digital entertainment…
This policy has contributed to increase the investments on specific projects as well as strengthening the links between major companies, the local scientific community and the universities.
The Lyon COMPETE conference was the occasion for in-depth exchanges with other European cities on the subject of cluster policies and strategies with the intention to identify key success factors. The conference focused on established Lyon clusters, such as AXELERA (sustainable chemistry) or Lyon BioPole (healthcare). Furthermore, we had contributions from COMPETE partner cities such as Barcelona (on creative industries), Helsinki (on the role of universities in cluster development), Dortmund (Micro System Technology cluster) and Munich (Bio AG cluster).
The program was a mixture of presentations, on-site visits and workshops covering issues in cluster strategy and policy in city-regional competitiveness.
