In a highly competitive global economy, the ability to innovate is a key factor in competitiveness. Greater Lyon provides funding towards research carried out by companies and laboratories as part of its “competitiveness clusters” programme.
This policy, launched in France in 2004, is designed to support the initiatives of economic and academic actors in a given area.
A competitiveness cluster brings together companies, training centres and research bodies in a particular area as part of a collaborative programme. The aim is to develop common, innovative projects and to combine resources to acquire and develop an international profile.
