Develop areas of excellence and framework projects (like the Canceropole)

One of the main projects is the creation of an international area of excellence in the field of cancer in the Lyon region, called the Canceropole.

A 3-year period has been reserved, in which to bring the players together, define the project, and raise it to an international level. The initial focuses are:

to improve the legibility of fundamental research,

to support the clinical and epidemiological research effort,

to encourage the creation and installation of companies.

A provisional expenditure budget of 1,005,900 euros in total will be allocated, over three years, to launch the project (community council convention of January 21, 2003). The amount is divided between the 3 partners: the Government, the Region and Greater Lyon.

Greater Lyon also contributes to the project through its institutional support, its Life Science development scheme, particularly the Lyon Bioparc project, and through co-financing the project leadership.
