Summary

Lyon has one of the greatest research potentials in the world and, for some sectors, is a real international area of excellence.

Research thus boosts the creative potential of the conurbation, and contributes to the revival of the fashion-related economic fabric.

Considerable research potential

Textile and clothing

Carré Hermes

Textile and clothing boast two industrial technical centers with European scope:

IFTH : Institut Français du Textile et de l'Habillement (French textile and clothing institute)
CTTN-IREN : Centre Technique de la Teinture et du Nettoyage (technical center for dyeing and cleaning)

Moreover, the Lyon branch benefits from the presence of two advanced research centers with national (the Lyon textile and chemical institute) and international (International center for the study of ancient textiles) scope.

Leather

Backed up by the presence of major R&D centers, Lyon is the 1st French center for research and innovation in the leather sector.

The CTC: Centre Technique du Cuir Chaussure Maroquinerie (technical center for leather, shoes and leather goods)

The goal of the ERC (Education Research and Creation) project is to make the Parisian-style office of the French leather goods federation (Fédération Française de la Maroquinerie) a place where stylists can bring their designs to life. The presence of such an instrument in Lyon opens up the possibility of a "made in Lyon" brand (full prototyping would then take place in Lyon for shoes and leather goods).

ITECH: Institut Textile et Chimique (textile and chemical institute)

Design

Lyon boasts the largest design center in France, the CDRA (Centre de Design Rhône-Alpes - Rhône-Alpes design center). This "1901 law"-type non-profit association created in 1991 is the real center of intelligence and design research in the Rhône-Alpes region, owing to the various missions assigned to it:

Anticipate evolution in the field of design
Encourage technology transfer
Ensure scientific and technical propagation
Be a design resource center for businesses and professional designers

The CDRA has relations with the main European design centers (participation in the European "Management of Design as an innovative tool-Made it" program with 8 European design centers, participation in several European events).

Dermocosmetology: skin care arising from the merging of dermatological care and beauty care.

Presence of the European Dermocosmetology Center, which manages the promotion of cosmetics expertise in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Industrial synergies with the chemistry, Life Sciences and textile industries.
