Summary

One objective: to break into the Top 15 European metropolitan areas

Because economic development is the pre-requisite for all other types of development, and because it creates wealth and jobs, Greater Lyon and the economic players in the conurbation implemented an economic and development strategy whose ambition is to get the Lyon conurbation into the Top 15 European metropolitan areas, a status that would enhance its attractiveness and renown.

When facing the competition of international metropolitan areas, the capacity of the players in a region to federate initiatives remains a great advantage.

The economic strategy of Greater Lyon is the fruit of a real "economic governance", that is unique in France. It was drafted in partnership with the institutions representing the world of business, and has been formalized through the "Greater Lyon, a Business Spirit

The Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Rhône Chamber of Trade
The Lyon Rhône MEDEF (French employers' organization)
The CGPME (General confederation of small and medium-sized enterprises)

Each player is involved in accordance with the principle of subsidiarity, and is responsible for the smooth implementation of the main strategic orientations.

Some players are invited to contribute their specialist skills to targeted projects, in order to make the network truly comprehensive. There are currently around one hundred organizations and businesses involved in implementing the economic strategy.
