Summary

Greater Lyon carries out very clearly defined activities so as not to encroach on the activities of its partners.

Support and coordinate specific missions for businesses during trade shows and business trips
Participate in the organization of business conventions
Help to organize exchanges with partner cities

The main purpose of these missions is to give a real dynamic impulse, and create a lever effect for the international development of Lyon's areas of excellence: biotechnologies, digital technologies, and fashion and design.

Greater Lyon spreads its wings worldwide

Actions towards the internationalization of priority policies

Tackle international competition, particularly with regard to canvassing for businesses, along with its professionalization, and the competitors' capacity to offer support not available through the networks, and participation in international trade shows in the priority sectors.

Canvassing missions for priority sectors have been entrusted to ADERLY in Europe, Asia and the USA:

digital technologies, video games and new technologies
skin cosmetology

In addition, particular emphasis has been placed on Life Sciences, through the implementation of the "pre-installation experts" program: Lyon-BioAdvisor.

Local boosting of international players

Stimulating the network of 17 economic consulates present in Lyon involves:

giving presentations and information on the events and actions organized by Greater Lyon,
issuing invitations to events organized by Greater Lyon (OPALE fashion seminar, presentation of the Print'Or show, GameWeek, Canceropole, etc.),
harnessing these networks to bring in companies or delegations to trade shows or business conventions in Lyon, or making contact with businesses or organizations capable of fulfilling the needs of local companies, during trade shows or trips abroad.

Installation in Lyon or organization of delegations abroad

In 2003, Greater Lyon helped welcome or arrange the visits of 30 delegations. These visits, involving mainly businesses or more institutional trips, help market the conurbation's territory. Particular effort is put into catering to delegations interested in the priority sectors, and in geographic areas where long-lasting links may develop.

Welcoming foreign students and researchers

Foreign researchers, and more than 10,000 foreign students, live in Lyon throughout the year, and are the focus of special support and events, as part of the "Lyon, Innovative Metropolitan Area" program in association with the City of Lyon (world students evenings, the "young ambassadors of Lyon" scheme, creation of a newspaper to maintain contact between researchers after they leave the city).
