Characteristics
This technopole covering 100 hectares, based in the North of Villeurbanne, in immediate vicinity of Lyon, concentrates 6,000 people on the site. Representing 40% of Lyon's scientific potential, the technopolitan site of La Doua is the 1st research and training center in France in terms of its collaboration with industry. It achieved 30M€ worth of contracts in 1999.
This major science and technology center is also recognized for its areas of excellence: Life Sciences, engineering and information sciences.
Key figures
 | 1,600 researchers
 | 1,200 doctoral students
 | 20,000 students
 | 80 research laboratories, including 41 with links to the CNRS, 2 associated with INSERM and 1 connected to INRA
 | 140 businesses on the technopolitan site (with 50 hi-tech companies)
 | 3 engineering schools (ESCPE LYON - INSA de Lyon - ISTIL) |
Site advantages
2 priorities: the Canceropole, and the environment, with a view to sustainable development.
8 branches of excellence: Information science and technologies; chemistry, catalysis and process engineering; biology, biochemistry and healthcare; environmental sciences and technologies; materials and their applications; mechanics and heat transfer; civil and urban engineering; fundamental sciences (math, physics and Earth science)
Major projects:
 | In the near future, the Institut des Sciences Analytiques (ISA - analytical sciences institute) will be set up close to the science park, along with the NMR center and the CEMAGREF Lyon research units.
 | Through grouping together existing research units, the ISA's vocation is to become one of the only European centers of this size devoted to analytical chemistry.
 | Current research teams wish to make the science park known as an area of excellence for environmental activities, with a view to sustainable development. Led by the UCB and INSA, in collaboration with Grenoble, the goal of this park is to be part of a network of areas of excellence, with a European (or larger) scope.
 | The Rhône-Alpes project of an environment center for sustainable development is twofold, aiming to coherently develop the following 2 missions: the generation of knowledge through research, and the propagation of this knowledge through reinforcing the relations between businesses and research. |
