Description
SHIM 2008 (Swift Heavy Ions in Matter) will be the seventh International Symposium in a series that began in Caen (France) in 1989.
The conference will gather scientists that perform research with energetic heavy ions in various fields, such as radiation effects in solids, radiation biology and medicine, atomic physics and nanotechnology.
SHIM focuses on basic as well as applied research, including both experimental and theoretical aspects.
Topics
The conference will deal with the following topics:
 | particle-matter interaction: swift Heavy Ion interaction with atoms, molecules, clusters, liquids and solids
|
 | material modification: track formation, phase transitions, plastic deformations, sputtering and mixing
|
 | high LET chemical and biological radiation effects: polymers and organics, radiolysis of liquids, radiobiology and hadrontherapy
|
 | applications: Ion Track Technology, high LET effects on electronic devices, geological and astrophysical applications |
