The Lyon urban area has built its economic development on industry, trade and banking.

This reality is still evident today, as can be seen in the textile, chemical and mechanical engineering industries.

A great number of industrial companies (500-1,000 employees) are also present, in sectir such as logistics, agro-food, fine chemicals, services, electricity, energy, etc.

In order to remain competitive, these companies express requirements regarding the reinforcement and expansion of their activities. Already fitted out, or in the process of developement or refurbishment, numerous sites are adapted to all types of sector, all fields of business and all stages of company developement are today ready to accomodate new companies.

In addition to traditional activities, novel sectors with a high rate of progression have given rise to today's centres of excellence whiche have developed over a few decade : healthcare and biotechnology industries , digital technology, information and communications technology, the fashion and design industry, as well as the environmental sector, plastic processing, etc.

The "property chain" set up by the Greater Lyon complements the private players, thus ensuring that all new requirements for companies wishing to install their business are covered, from young to multi-national companies looking for a site located in a technological centre and small/medium-sized companies looking for premises as part of their expension.

To ensure coherence and efficiency, Greater Lyon encourages the geographical grouping of companies in the same sector, by offering dedicated propoerty opportunities designed to encourage exchange and cooperation between companies. In the biotechnology sector, three major projects are in the course of development :
