Summary

Greater Lyon's refurbishment policy, launched in 1997 in the main economic centers in the conurbation, mainly seeks to concentrate means within a given geographic area and period of time, with the aim of making a "qualitative leap" with regards to lifestyle.

Revived in 2003, it now aims to reinforce planning initiatives, and to promote the sustainable management of the main economic centers

Activity areas developed in the 1950s/60s/70s are outdated, particularly with regards to the services on offer.
The cost of equipping new installation sites is constantly increasing.
The property supply is limited in new areas, and siting requests are sometimes difficult to fulfill.
The quantity of unused land increases in existing activity areas.

Activity areas have an impact on the lifestyle offered to the conurbation's inhabitants.
Priority public policies imply greater involvement of activity areas in the conurbation's development (technological risks, public transport, accessibility, etc.).
