"Salle 3000": a new emblematic bulding

An ambitious installation

This ambitious installation, carried out under control of work of the Great Projects Direction of the Greater Lyon (Urban Community) will constitute a true figurehead at the north-eastern entry of the city, becoming one of the emblematic buildings of the Lyons metropolitan area.

Totaly flexible, its capacity will vary from 900 to 3220 places. The architect, Renzo Piano and the landscape designer Michel Corajoud (project executors) reconsidered the functions of a palate of the congresses. The Large Amphitheatre is much more than one palate it is a true "stadium of congress" with its flexible room of 3000 places in the shape of amphitheatre, of multiple spaces of reception, a forum of exposure of 7000m², rooms of commission...

A gigantic building site

On the whole, until 2006, about sixty companies will work on the building site, 8 cranes will be assembled and 450 people will be present there at the same time (during the periods of peak). Not less than 300 000 m3 of ground have being removed, which represents per working day, 2 trucks every 3 minutes and this during 6 months. Room 3000 will require a total investment of almost 127 M€ from the Greater Lyon.

Already many reservations

Today, 25 demonstrations are confirmed for 2006 and 2007. The first, in June, should accomodate 5 000 people for the congress of the " Mutualité Française ".

In addition, nearly 75 congresses are currently in talks. One of them is a congress of UNO, envisaged in November 2006. It could attract a population coming from 180 nations, consequently reinforcing the international visibility of the Lyons agglomeration.
