The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lyon, Greater Lyon and the Office of Tourism and Conventions of Greater Lyon support and accompany the development of the hotel market.

 

Together, they elaborate the Hotel Master Plan in order to

better meet demand and
favor economic dynamism for the urban agglomeration.


Objectives of Hotel Development Master Plan



Increasing overall hotel capacity from 1900 to 2600 rooms to accompany economic development

700 to 1000 rooms in business tourism 3-star and4-star hotels
1200 to 1600 rooms in 2-star hotels

Favour the renovation / modernization of family tourism in urban area



2003 - 2008



Between 2003 and January 2008, capacity has increased to +9,5% (an increase of 1,9% in average per year).

 

This represents + 1024 rooms:

13% of 4-star rooms
8.3% of 3-star rooms
6.1% of 2-star rooms
16% of 0 to 1-star rooms

An ambitious Hotel Master Plan for 2008-2009



Organizing, assisting, and guiding hotel development

By determining needs in terms of capacity and proposed product types per market area, the Hotel Master Plan organizes assists and guides hotel development until 2010.

Assisting the decision-making process and orienting potential investors

Completed by a monthly observation of the hotel situation, this reference document is a tool for assisting the decision-making process of the Department Commission for Commercial Equipment and allows orienting potential investors.

Elaborating a new Hotel Master Plan before the end of 2009

Since first goals will soon be attained, a new Hotel Master Plan will be elaborated before the end of 2009 to provide a new dimension to hotel development in Lyon.

 

It will aim to provide reassurance on projects currently under study that will allow increasing overall accommodation capacity. To meet tourist development expected from now to 2012, the number of rooms should increase from 11,500 to over 13,000.



Aim

To attract a large-scale 300 - to 400-room hotel development to the Lyon area
