The Amphitheatre alone can accommodate 3,000 people for major events that require an exceptional space. Flagship events: Congrès de la Mutualité, the G7 summit, Biovision, Biennale de la Danse, Global City and Europasia,
Centre des Congrès (Convention Centre), with a total exhibition space of 45,000 sqm.


Eurexpo – Lyon’s exhibition and convention centre



Eurexpo is one of the 20 largest business spaces in Europe.

Each year, it welcomes over 15,000 exhibitors and 1.5 million visitors.

 

Type of event: gala dinners, conventions, seminars, sales days, conferences, and more… Eurexpo is host to 200 events every year, representing a total of 20,000 visitors.

 

In 2007, Eurexpo was extended by over 16,000 sqm and now has a capacity of 120,000 sqm.



 Astounding growth


In 2005, there was just one conference of more than 3,000 people in Lyon; in 2007, there were seven.

 

In 2007, Lyon was rated France’s No. 2 meeting city by the UIA (Union of International Associations). This means that, for the first time in the city’s history, Lyon has entered the European Top 20 and world Top 30.

 



Lyon – setting the standard for urban tourism



More than 2.7 million of Lyon's tourists are business tourists (+13% from 2005 to 2006). In 2006, they attended 26,045 events (+11% from 2005 to 2006).

 

Turnover generated by conferences and meetings has increased by 52% in 3 years, culminating in a total turnover of €260m in 2006 (annual growth of 36%).

Hotel trade boosted by business tourism



The Lyon urban area boasts a total of 188 approved hotels, including 99 establishments in the centre of Lyon, representing 11,589 approved rooms.

 

 

In 2004, integrated chains represented 62% of hotel facilities in the Lyon urban area.

 

In total, 3- and 4-star hotels represent 40% of hotel facilities in the Lyon urban area – a much higher level than in other major French cities, and also higher than the French national average, which is only 36%.

 

Occupancy rate

After remaining stable at 67% between 2005 and 2006, the average occupancy rate reached 71.5% in 2007.

 

The 4-star category saw the greatest growth, with an increase of 6.4% on 2005 and a jump of 10% between 2002 and 2006.

 

Average room rate

In 2006, the average room rate was €76.20, compared with €75.40 in 2005, representing an average increase of 1.1%.

 

For the same year, the average rate for 4-star hotels in the city centre was €160.90, or an increase of 3.1% on 2005.

 

RevPAR

It is RevPAR (or revenue per available room) that has seen the greatest increases: globally (all categories combined), it grew by 3.6% between 2005 and 2006.

 

In the space of 5 years, from 2002 to 2006, it will have seen a constant average increase of 3.3% per year.
